Generation on the fritz is an understatement. As a Gen X in this society, I struggle with understanding what has happened. Being raised in the days of the baby boomers, there was not much to tell, other than, that there was an unspoken order and understanding to everything. One would not dare to speak without being spoken to or to touch anything that was not theirs. Being in the room, meant being a fly on the wall in the room, but you were not included in anything that the adults were doing. If you just so happened to be allowed to stay, you knew you were just in the room.
I wake up and go about my responsibilities of the day to witness a cloud of confusion lingering over the young people as they are trying to navigate “what’s next!” There seem to be great disparities between what we know as Gen X vs. a Gen Y (Millennial) or better yet, a Gen Alpha. And who sat down and decided that this is what to call each 15-year group of people? Adolescents 11 and 12 years old are stressed and claiming mental overload. While our 16-19 year olds are overwhelmed with the pressure of basic common sense and living. It’s becoming disheartening to realize that their tolerance levels are subpar and their morals are values are even lower. What will they do when and if they live to be an elder?
Adults with full-time pressured jobs, the task of a family, and limitless responsibilities seem to be coping better with the world’s changes. Anxiety levels are high and concentration levels are at an all-time low. How can one have enough brain matter to manipulate social media platforms, and technological strongholds but lack the skill to read a novel? Is it because of brain overload or are they actually underdeveloped? I’m still trying to figure it out myself.
I cannot imagine what it’s like to live with so many misplaced emotions that lead to excessive fighting. Their inability to verbally communicate leads to verbal misunderstandings and poor language skills. The expectation of everything needing to be in the NOW! There is little to no preparation for the future and forethought is just not a thing!
Low self-esteem, lack of respect, no regard for authority figures. Impatience, expectant, and demanding with no purpose. This has got to be a recipe for disaster.
I say it has something to do with the air, or maybe the ozone deterioration. There has to be a connection between the lack of clean air and the poison in our foods for mass production. Our youth is walking in a brain fog.
As I sit and think about the many communities suffering from poor food quality and a lack of mobility. The accessibility of constructive things to do and the societal norms that have now turned into drug-induced stupors. What are they doing to our children?
I don’t know how it’s connected but it’s got to be a part of the problem. Now all we need to do is find the solution to make it right.
